WSET 1 in progress -- I peeled a grape in class and finally understood what tannins are.
Take a ClassI'm currently working through WSET 1 here and after one class I'm already eyeing WSET 2. That's how good it was.
The teacher actually works in the business, so she wasn't just reciting facts -- she answered every single one of my questions (I had a lot) and clearly knew exactly what she was talking about. The best part were the experiments she had us run through; one example: she had us peel grapes to taste the skin (where tannins live) and the flesh (where sugar lives) separately. I've had many people try to explain tannins to me and I never actually understood the concept until I tasted it myself. After class 1, I feel confident in my ability to tell whether a wine is low or high tannins! (As well as a few other things...)
